For patients that have high anxiety, treatment needs, or a difficult time allowing work to be completed, IV sedation may be an option to complete the necessary dental treatment. Dr. Wall will consider the necessity of the dental treatment, as well as your children’s behavior and medical history to make sure that an IV Sedation is appropriate and in the best needs of your child.

IV Sedation is completed in office. As always, your child’s safety is our top priority and we work with a nurse anesthesiologist to manage the sedation, and ensure that your child is fully monitored and that all safety precautions are taken during the appointment.

Your child is given a dose of sedative medication in the waiting room, and will be “asleep” as they are brought to the treatment room, where an IV is placed. Once the IV is placed, if necessary, another exam and any dental x-rays needed are taken to ensure that all necessary treatment is planned and discussed with you. All dental treatment will then be completed in that appointment, while your child is asleep.

Once the work is completed your child is moved to a recovery room, where we bring you back to be by their side, and they sleep for an additional 30-45 minutes. If you have questions or concerns about IV Sedation, or would like to have your child evaluated for a possible sedation, please contact our office.
